I love, love, love the quilts that my customers send me. I get to see such a range of quilt patterns and it really keeps me inspired and challenged.
What makes this quilt even more fun is that I quilted a version of it for her almost 4 years ago!! It’s kinda fun to see how my quilting style has evolved over the years.
As for this quilt, Nichole said to have fun with the quilt top. The only request that she had was to incorporate clouds into the sky. I may have gulped when I read that…..clouds have always been a struggle for me. I want them to look like clouds, but not like blobs. It really is a fine line.
I opted to make the clouds flat on the bottom and surrounded them with swirls.
A close up picture….
I started quilting the clouds and the swirls before I remembered that I would have to fit them around the adorably tiny vehicles. Swirls don’t tend to work well in smaller spaces, so I switched to some dense back and forth lines to really make the piecing pop….
We all know that I love contrast in my quilting, so for the green area of the quilt I opted for a more linear quilting design. But instead of just quilting the same design in the whole area, I threw in some rolling hills. What can I say? I was getting a little bored…
This quilt is a perfect example that quilting can be whimsical and fun as well as effective! What about you? Doesn’t this adorably cute quilt make you want to make one out for yourself? Empty Bobbin Sewing Company (the publisher of the patterns) has offered up not one, but two patterns to giveaway! One paper copy for an US resident, and one PDF pattern for an International winner. That’s right, my friends overseas get their own category! Just leave a comment on this post telling me if you live in the US or overseas. I will draw a winner on Friday. Good Luck!!
