Quilting Is My Therapy The Anchor Quilt

I really enjoy quilting quilts that have a clear inspiration….especially when it’s fun inspiration! Case in point…..Tula Pink’s Anchor quilt:

Tula designed this quilt for her booth at Quilt Market and when she showed me the quilt top, I just knew it needed a rope. So that’s what I quilted!

I wanted the “rope” to took like it was wrapped around the anchor.

In the gray and white stripes, I played around with some new, favorite designs.

I always like quilting, but some quilts are more fun than others….and this one was a lot of fun!!! I couldn’t be prouder with how it turned out!!!

On a different note, have you seen the latest issue of Machine Quilting Unlimited?

Angela, I am a big fan. I have a question. When you are quilting on your long arm how do you make your patterns look like you never stopped a particular design through the entire quilt? I have never done long arm quilting but am looking into wanting to start and it is fascinating to see how the designs do not look like you had to stop and advance your quilts. For instance in the Anchor Quilt, the designs in the gray and white.

Wow – that quilt is amazing! The rope was the perfect idea, and I love your other new patterns! I wish I’d had this magazine before my last quilt – I should have done a feather wreath in the center, but instead I used templates to make butterflies. It’s ok, but I wish I had just figured out my first instinct, because it would have been better! I’ve been having fun using your book to practice my fmq on a bunch of charity quilts, and I’m shocked at how quickly I’m getting better! If only the QuiltCon entries were at the end of December instead of November!

Angela, thank you for sharing your work so freely. You are amazing!! I’d be a long arm quilter with or without your influence. But, your influence, inspiration and instruction is invaluable as I move forward; trying new designs, rethinking how to enter and exit a block and viewing the quilting as another layer of art.
