Today’s quilt is awesome…..just awesome. And I am not the only one that thinks that! You now it’s stunning when Katy (you know…I’m a ginger monkey) calls it the “best quilt of the year. Hands down”
Megan made this quilt and was nice enough to let me quilt it for her. Without any further ado….The Scrap Hoover!
This was one of the most distracting quilts that I have ever quilted…..distracting in a good way. I loved looking at all of this different prints and seeing if I could Name! That! Print! (imagine me saying that in my best game show announcer voice!)
Can you just imagine how long this quilt took her to make? It’s a spiderweb quilt pattern, which takes forever on its own. But Megan took it to the next level and crazy pieced the centers. So stunning!
Anytime I quilt a “scrappy” quilt like this, I am very particular about the designs that I use.
Instead of quilting an allover design, I like to pick a few different ones and repeat them throughout the quilt. I tend to think that it adds a sense of rhythm and continuity to the quilt. For this quilt, in each of the rings, I alternated between straight lines and a figure 8 design.
In the center of each block, I quilted a simple flowery design. In between the blocks, I quilted a swirl design. My thought was that the quilting in between the blocks could “flatten” those areas and make the blocks stand out just a little bit.
And the back…oh the quilt back is gorgeous!! A big scale print really sets off the quilt and shows hints of the quilting!
The hardest part of my job will always be sending back the beautiful quilts that come my way. But I can always look at the pictures of it on Megan’s blog!
You can vote for her and help her win a grant for her business and other great prizes. You can vote every day until September 24th.
PS. Bonus points to anyone that notices the random quilted spiderweb in one of the pictures above. It’s a spiderweb quilt pattern, I have to quilt at least quilt one spiderweb in it!
